Just launched! Organize related ideas by theme

by Claire George

Every idea represents a customer need or want. But meaningful trends emerge when you step back and look at the bigger picture. That is why we are introducing themes — a new way to consolidate feedback. Bring together related ideas manually or use powerful AI capabilities to quickly uncover key concepts.

Use themes to better understand feedback trends and make informed roadmap decisions.

Themes are a new Aha! record type that helps you organize ideas around common customer challenges, opportunities, or topics. Available to all Aha! Ideas customers (whether you use Aha! Ideas Essentials as part of Aha! Roadmaps or have a standalone Aha! Ideas plan), they are ideal for understanding lots of customer feedback — so you can uncover what is really important.

Create a theme when you notice patterns emerging in the ideas you review, or based on known customer problems you want to track. Then, search for relevant ideas and add them. If you are on the Aha! Ideas Advanced plan, ask the AI assistant to uncover potential themes and save the most pertinent ones. You can also use AI to suggest ideas that fit within each theme. (Suggested ideas will fill in over the next few weeks.)

View summary statistics for the total number of ideas and votes associated with a theme. If you have organizations set up in your account, you can see which companies voted for related ideas and review aggregated revenue and opportunity value data from Salesforce. Rank ideas within each theme on the prioritization page so it is clear what to tackle first.

Bring themes into the rest of your strategic planning process — linking them to initiatives, releases, epics, or features in Aha! Roadmaps. This helps you keep the most pressing customer needs top of mind as you enhance your products. You can also build reports using themes to track customer needs and delivered work.

Let's take a closer look at how to make this happen:

Identify key themes

In the example below, we want to track customer requests related to improving performance analytics in Fredwin Cycling (a fictitious fitness application). We quickly created a new theme from the ideas overview page to understand the broader need. The description field summarizes the core customer challenge and its impact — which ensures the team can align on the problem and helps the AI assistant suggest related ideas to link.

Group ideas into a theme

Let's look for ideas in our portal that support the "Exploring performance analytics" theme. We review AI-suggested ideas and manually search for and add a few others. Summary stats — such as total ideas, votes, organization count, and opportunity value — quickly reveal the potential impact of addressing the challenge. This visibility ensures we focus on the most important areas to improve our product.

Prioritize by theme

It is now time to decide which ideas to tackle. On the ideas prioritization page, we can filter ideas by theme. We can also see product value scores, votes, and other important details all in one place. This gives us the context we need to rank ideas in priority order. Adding a priority limit line helps highlight the top four ideas we want to implement in the next planning cycle.

Go beyond individual ideas — understand what truly matters to your customers.

Themes can certainly help you keep track of the most important trends in customer feedback — but direct conversations provide even deeper insights. We recently launched Aha! Discovery to give you a new way to manage customer interviews. Email us for a demo to see how you can centralize meeting transcripts, uncover key product insights, and link them directly to your roadmap.
