Introducing Aha! Discovery — the new way to manage customer interviews

by Brian de Haaff

"Why should we fund that initiative?" Or, "Why should we build that feature?" These are dreaded questions for product builders, UX managers, and research teams when they pitch new concepts. I have always tried to answer by sharing exactly what customers said. And then punctuating with a cheerful, "That's why!" Now, we all can do exactly that.

Today, we welcome Aha! Discovery to our growing suite of product development tools.

Aha! Discovery is the new way to manage customer interviews, uncover key product insights, and link them to your roadmap. It solves a challenge our own product team had. And, based on the early reactions, a lot of other teams struggle with product discovery too.

We know that product discovery is more important than ever. AI is changing the software landscape at breakneck pace. My co-founder Dr. Chris Waters and I recently made a prediction, which we are (still mostly seriously) calling the Waters theory. It is our observation that from here out, the percentage of code written by AI — not people — will quintuple year over year.

In this AI-driven environment, product discovery becomes the ultimate differentiator. You must have clarity on what you need to build.

There are two ways you can quickly learn more. Join me for a live event on Thursday, April 3, where we will discuss the product discovery work that went into building this new product. Then, go ahead and try Aha! Discovery for yourself — it is ready to use right now. (Note that if you are already an Aha! software customer, you will need to contact the team at support@aha.io so we can enable Aha! Discovery in your account.)

Let's explore how to jump-start your product discovery efforts with Aha! Discovery:

Centralize customer research

Standardize your organization's approach to product discovery. All your customer interview data is in one place — so you never lose track of precious customer research and everyone can benefit from your findings. You can establish best practices for running research studies and define goals and assumptions to clarify what you hope to learn.

Create unlimited studies and interviews to manage your research in one place.

Engage the right people

You no longer have to ask customer-facing teams who you should try to contact. Establish a database of research participants that the product team manages — you can add unlimited contacts and organize them by company and group with labels.

Keeping track of previous conversations is also effortless. Quickly identify which end users to reach out to based on prior interviews as well as relevant personas or interests. And if you are an existing Aha! customer with an ideas portal set up, users who provided feedback will already be in your repository.

Add contacts to your database manually, import them via CSV, or select from a list of ideas portal users.

Streamline interview scheduling

Make it easy for folks to join the conversation. Avoid the scheduling shuffle — set the times you are available to meet with participants. Share a link to a custom scheduling page so they can select a time that is convenient for them. And cut down on email busywork with custom-branded invites and macros. This way, you can respond quickly with personalized messages.

Integrate with Zoom and Microsoft Teams to automatically generate meeting links, create transcriptions, and upload videos and transcripts.

Uncover fresh learnings

Craft an interview script to ensure the team asks the same set of probing questions. Record the interview in your meeting service of choice (such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet). Then, upload it to Aha! Discovery along with the transcript. There is no need to read it all line by line — our powerful AI assistant will quickly summarize the conversation and pull out customer sentiment, relevant learnings, and impactful quotes.

Generate insight reports

Share your research results. We created a set of built-in templates so you can generate study and interview reports with consistent formatting. Publish these reports on a secure webpage to make your findings available to stakeholders and the broader team. And track all your research activity on an interactive dashboard to see trends over time.

Report templates created by product experts help you highlight findings.

Connect to your roadmap

Make customer insights a foundational input for strategic planning. Connect studies and interviews to your initiatives, epics, and features in Aha! Roadmaps and Aha! Ideas. Even better, convert findings directly into new Aha! records. This ensures your roadmap is customer-driven and validates the team's recommended direction.

Use the Research tab on Aha! records to view relevant product insights in one place.

Aha! Discovery is now available to product builders everywhere — start using it if you would benefit from meeting with more customers, but need to do so as efficiently as possible.

Aha! Discovery offers two pricing plans: Essentials and Advanced. Your free 30-day trial starts with Aha! Discovery Advanced. (Purchase any plan later.)

Aha! Discovery Essentials is $39 per user per month, and Aha! Discovery Advanced is $59 per user per month. If you already use Aha! Roadmaps or Aha! Ideas, you can upgrade all users in your account to include Aha! Discovery (Essentials or Advanced) capabilities. Send an email to support@aha.io so we can help you get started.

The Aha! team has been dedicated to delivering best-in-class tools for product development teams since we launched our flagship product, Aha! Roadmaps, in 2013. Over the last decade, we have expanded our software suite to include products that address all stages of product development — from product discovery to delivery.

With Aha! Discovery, we are adding another essential tool for powering your product development engine. I look forward to giving you a glimpse of all that is possible.
