Aha! Surpasses 5,000 Customers and a $40 Million Annual Revenue Run Rate
We imagined a world of lovable software created by happy product builders. That is why we founded Aha! in 2013. And our growth was amazingly swift from the start. But we purposefully never shared the actual number of companies we serve and our revenue. Create value first — people will take notice.
So for the last five years, we have focused on creating real value for customers and our team. We just delivered on that promise again with the launch of the Aha! mobile app. But today we are doing something a bit different, something new. We are sharing more information about the exceptional growth of the company.
I am thrilled to announce that Aha! serves more than 5,000 paying customers and 200,000 users. We have surpassed an annual revenue run rate of $40 million.
This is a tremendous accomplishment for any company. But it is unheard of for one with no venture funding, no offices, and no salespeople. Aha! is one of the fastest-growing software companies in the U.S. — doing it all with an entirely distributed global team.
As remarkable as that is, we are most proud of the fact that we built Aha! according to our own values. Our approach is definitely unconventional, but it works. I have written about it in blog posts and in our bestselling book, Lovability. We hope our accomplishments help to inspire people to build better companies.
You see, both my co-founder Dr. Chris Waters and I have lived and worked in Silicon Valley for more than 20 years. We are all too familiar with the growth-at-any-cost mentality that seems to dominate technology companies today. Aha! is a different kind of company. We reject this model. Instead, we put people and profit first.
The engine that powers our own phenomenal growth is The Responsive Method (TRM). We first pioneered TRM in 2014 as a framework for personal and business success. It drives our team to act fast and be goal-first oriented. We respond to customers globally within two hours. We operate with transparency, kindness, and respect.
This people-centric approach is how our grandparents built companies. It still works today — even though too many organizations have lost track of what really matters.
Our focus on people has been unwavering and 2018 has already been a momentous year for us. Aha! was named one of Inc’s Best Workplaces. We also received the distinction of Company of the Year in both the Stevie Awards’ American Business Awards and the Best in Biz Awards. And we were recently honored as a finalist in the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) 2018 CODiE Awards.
Yes, this recognition is gratifying. But it is also amazing to see the positive impact we are having for our customers.
We believe every company is a software company and every company needs a strategic product roadmap. Customers at the world’s best-known companies, from Linkedin to Siemens to Swarovski, tell us every day that our roadmapping software has changed how they innovate and build products.
Aha! is particularly powerful for enterprise customers. Many of the largest companies in the world rely on our software to support major transformation efforts. Anne Walsh, customer experience manager at the American Automobile Association (AAA) calls Aha! a “game changer.”
She says that “[Aha!] brings a new level of transparency and collaboration that is critical to help us transform our organization and deliver new digital customer experiences. The tool is going viral across our organization.”
So, what is next? Our focus has not changed: Create value for our customers and our team.
We are committed to helping product managers build lovable products and be happy doing it. And we will do our best to inspire people to think differently about how a high-growth company can be built.
It is humbling to look back on all that our team has accomplished in five short years. Aha! is the obvious choice for product teams around the world. We are one of the best places to work. We are self-funded and profitable.
And we are just getting started.
